Privacy Policy

BrightGenius is a product of Genius Learning, Inc. (“BrightGenius,” “we,” “us”). We build early-reading software for young children, used by a parent or guardian. We take privacy seriously — especially children's privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Who this policy covers
Our direct customer is always the parent or guardian (18+) who creates and controls the account. Children do not have their own logins; they use the app through profiles the parent sets up and manages. This policy covers the parent account holder. Information about children is governed primarily by the Children's Privacy Policy.
What we collect from parents
- Account information — your name and email address, via our authentication provider (Clerk).
- Billing information — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Family settings — your preferences (e.g. faith-content toggle, email preferences).
- Communications — emails or feedback you send us.
- Basic technical data — standard server logs (IP address, browser type) used for security and to operate the service. We do not use these for advertising.
What we collect about children
We practice strict data minimization for children. We collect only a first name or nickname (your choice), an age in years, an avatar selection, and learning progress. Full detail — including how voice activities work — is in the Children's Privacy Policy.
How we use information
- To provide the learning experience and save your child's progress.
- To process your subscription and send service-related email (welcome, weekly progress, billing notices).
- To respond to your support requests.
- To keep the service secure and improve it.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for behavioral advertising.
Service providers we share with
We use a small set of vetted processors strictly to operate the service:
- Clerk — parent authentication.
- Stripe — payment processing (no child data passes through Stripe).
- Turso — encrypted database hosting.
- Vercel — application hosting and edge storage.
- Resend — transactional email delivery.
- OpenAI — speech-to-text for voice activities (audio is processed transiently and not retained by us; see Children's Policy).
- ElevenLabs — text-to-speech narration (no child data is sent — we send only the lesson script).
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of a child or any person.
Data retention
We keep account and learning data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your family's data — including all child profiles and their learning records — from our active systems. We retain limited billing records where required for tax and accounting compliance, and these contain no child data. Backups are purged on a rolling cycle.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to production data is limited to personnel who need it to operate the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your family's information using industry-standard practices.
Your rights and choices
- Access & review — view your child's data anytime in your parent dashboard.
- Correction — edit profile details in settings.
- Deletion — delete your account and all associated child data from the dashboard; we remove it from active systems promptly.
- Email preferences — opt out of non-essential email anytime.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (e.g. under CCPA or GDPR). To exercise any right, email privacy@brightgenius.ai.
Cookies
We use only the cookies necessary to keep you signed in and to operate the service. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll notify account holders by email and update the effective date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
